March

Hey there!

I hope you’re doing well! Here’s your monthly highlight-reel from my ministry - let me know what you think!

  Hanging In The Park

Since we still can’t meet indoors, we’ve been enjoying the warmer weather outside a lot lately as a ministry. I think it’s important that we do whatever we have to do to be together even if it is outside and socially distanced for now - makes me think of Hebrews 10:24-25 “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” Here’s some pictures from our hangouts this month!

Our Collin Staff Team!

I’ve really loved working with these people this year as we try our best to serve the Collin College campuses. They have challenged me in so many ways and I’m really grateful for the guidance they have given me as I try to figure out what it looks like to be campus missionary and pastor this year. Here’s a picture that represents us well! It’s hard to explain everything going on in this picture but there was for sure a wasp flying around which explains at least some of it.

My First Time Preaching to Students!

I had the opportunity to give the sermon at one of our most recent large-group meetings (we call the meeting “deep-dive” since we spend a lot of time diving deep into scripture). I chose to talk about Acts 1:4-8 and focused on teaching about the Holy Spirit, since a lot of our students don’t come from backgrounds that talk about the Spirit of God much. They also tend not to have much exposure to what scripture says about the Spirit, so I got to explain a lot to them. I was really nervous to speak but the Spirit worked through me anyway and it actually went pretty well for a first sermon. I definitely need a lot of practice still, but it felt good to get one sermon under my belt.

Here’s a graphic calendar for our ministry events this upcoming month. Please be praying that the Lord would use these events to grow and bless our students.

Click to watch this video that a student put together after one of our annual winter camps - it’s pretty special - and I’m sad we couldn’t have this year.

Thank you so much for keeping up with my ministry and for praying for me and everything I’m doing. I can’t express enough how much I appreciate the support. Thank you!

In Christ,

Joey Thurston
